Several years ago I discovered that jig hooks featuring a 90-degree bend close to the eye also make excellent fly hooks - especially for saltwater patterns with lead or brass dumbbell eyes. The bend in the hookshank provides a perfect anchoring and tie-off point for the eyes, and the hook is less prone to snagging bottom because it always rides upward.
